Teacher EXCEL Grants for MPS Teachers
Grants up to $750 each awarded to MPS teachers to fund creative classroom projects to enrich student learning. 47 grants were awarded in 2008-09 and 66 teachers were honored at a reception and awards program held on December 8, 2008.

The Teacher EXCEL Grant program is supported by generous donations of MPS employees through the annual Employee Combined Giving Campaign. It is also supported by contributions made in memory of Ann Shansky, who was an elementary teacher in MPS for 34 years.

Washington High School of Expeditionary Learning
Grant awarded to support the school's Job Shadowing Program. Funding was made possible through a grant from the Faye McBeath Foundation designated for this purpose.

MPS Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Program
Grant awarded to support the Milwaukee Public Schools AED program to purchase AED devices for MPS schools and support training activities. Funding was made possible through a donation from the Wisconsin Coalition of Asian Indian Organizations.

Grant awarded to Hartford University School to support the school’s Aviary Program. Funds were made available through generous donations from individuals to support this project.

School Incentive Grants
Incentive grants of $250 each were awarded to 19 schools and one award was presented to the MPS Department of Special Services Career Assessment and Training Program for their improved record of giving in the 2007-2008 MPS Employees’ Combined Giving Campaign.

Grant awarded to the MPS Division of Teaching and Learning to support the MPS Close Up Program. Funds will be used for 15 students from four high schools to participate in the Close Up Program in Washington, DC in May 2008.

Grant awarded to The Alliance School from the Cream City Foundation to support the school’s educational program

Grant awarded to support programs at the school including: Schoolwide membership to the Urban Ecology Center, a Milwaukee Public Theater Residency, DanceWorks Residency, and a Butterfly Garden project. Funding was provided through generous donations from parents and friends of the school.
