| Goals : The primary goals of the MPS Partnership for the Arts are to: • Expand arts-related experiences for MPS children, youth, and adults accompanying children in activities. • Increase the number of enriching activities that connect the arts to academic learning. • Strengthen existing and establish new community partnerships that motivate students to higher levels of academic and artistic achievement. • Increase resources and support for arts education in the schools and community. The Milwaukee Board of School Directors allocated $1 million in public funds from the Extension Fund to support arts education activities for the 2008-09 school year and summer 2009. The funds will only be released when a dollar-for-dollar new resource match is received from outside MPS to support a project or activity. The goal is to secure new and additional resources to support arts-related activities. During 2008-09, 24 projects were approved serving about 20,000 students in 130 schools and city wide. More than 30 community arts partners are participating. See below for a list of the funded projects and a one page program summary. During 2007-08, 33 projects were approved serving 20,000 students in nearly 150 schools and involving 40 lead community arts partners and dozens of individual artists.
